The majority of dial up packages have cut off times, or online session limitations as they are sometimes known. Apart from a slower connection speed, one of the main downfalls of dial up Internet access are cut off times.
A cut off time or online session limitation; is basically the amount of time you have connected to the Internet before your ISP 'cuts-off' your connection. You can re-dial straight away, but they can become slightly annoying if you tend to use the Internet for long periods of time.
Different dial up packages will have varying cut off times. Dial up packages promoted towards game or business users tend to have longer cut off times, sometimes even up to 6 hours. The average cut off time is usually 2 hours as standard.
Similar to download limits on broadband packages, cut off times are part of an Internet service provider's fair usage policy.
