OUR weekly round-up of UK broadband news and developments in the UK broadband market.
You could say that Christmas and New Year have been ‘slow’ in terms of broadband ‘news’ but not everyone has been on holiday!
Be-autiful price slash on O2 Broadband
O2 Broadband has made a swoop for new users by re-structuring their prices for a limited time.
They are offering anyone who signs up to the O2 Broadband service before 30th April 2008 a price cut of £5 a month. Existing customers will also benefit as their contracts will be migrated down to the cheaper tariffs from 1st Feb.
This incredible offer means that you could find yourself on the end of an ‘up to’ 20mb connection for just £20 a month!
They’re also offering ‘up to’ 8mb for £12.50 a month and 16mb lines for a mere £15 a month! This is outstanding value and makes this writer very jealous of those able to take advantage!
It will be interesting to see how Be Broadband reacts, particularly as O2 is Be’s parent company! We will keep you updated on any developments.
This is one of the best offers we’ve seen recently so read more about this fantastic promotion from O2 Broadband here.
Zen wins award... again!
IT'S that time of year when all the magazines hold their award ceremonies and Zen Internet has reclaimed the PC Pro award for best ISP.
The award was decided by the readers of the magazine.
Zen Internet, whilst not boasting the most competitive broadband prices, has built its reputation with consistent top-notch customer service and reliability.
This has clearly paid off in terms of loyalty from its broadband users; this is the fourth year in a row that Zen has won this award.
What is there to look forward to in 2008?
Faster speeds: Virgin Media is already trialling up to 50mbps for cable customers whilst established ADSL2+ players like Be, Sky and O2 will be joined by the likes of BT as equipment is gradually upgraded. This could mean that more and more of us will be able to access speeds of up to 24mb on normal BT lines. Yippee!
Better customer service (?): The last couple of years have seen the number of broadband providers fall as more and more merge and consolidate. This is good news for you as it means the broadband consumer should be getting a better deal overall as the bigger service providers battle it out for your custom. We’ve already seen O2 Broadband slash its prices for its super-fast broadband and only time will tell if others follow suit.
Happy New Year!
