Don’t fancy a free AOL laptop? How about a free PlayStation 3?

Interested in the AOL free PlayStation 3 (PS3) offer? You can sign up on the AOL site...

Is the Carphone Warehouse / AOL Free PS3 offer any good?

The AOL free PS3 comes with

  • Sony PlayStation 3 (Full, standard machine)
  • Blu-ray playback capability
  • Wireless Sixaxis Controller
  • Ratchet and Clank Game
  • Stealth Blu-ray High-Definition movie

Our verdict on the AOL free PS3 giveaway:

“AOL and Carphone Warehouse have really come up trumps with this offer. While the free laptop was an excellent offer, many of us simply don't need a new - or additional - laptop. By offering a free PlayStation 3, AOL are appealing to a whole new market, and we love them for it. Considering their broadband package is in fact really quite good, this is a good chance to get a PS3 for Christmas!” - Bruce Stevens, ChooseISP's Technology Editor

What is the catch with the AOL & Carphone Warehouse free PS3?

We're both surprised, and pleased to report that the AOL free PS3 giveaway is catch-free! Of course there is a commitment to one of AOL’s Broadband Wireless Plus packages for 24 months and in order to get the cheapest monthly rate for the package, you'll have to take AOL's 'Pay As You Go' home phone package.

Find out more about the things to keep in mind if taking the AOL free PlayStation 3.

NOT content with just giving away free laptops, AOL / Carphone Warehouse is now offering new subscribers to their Broadband Wireless Plus packages a free Sony PlayStation 3.

AOL’s free PlayStation 3 is worth around £350 and comes with a 40GB hard drive, Blu-ray drive, enabling users to watch high-definition movies, a free game, Blu-ray HD movie and a wireless controller.

It can also be used to store photos, music and videos and to access online gaming.

The success of AOL’s ‘free laptop’ offer has prompted AOL to offer potential subscribers to their Broadband Wireless Plus service a festive incentive to sign-up, with all orders received before 17th December being sent in time for Christmas Day.

No catches

The package on offer is identical to the one offered with AOL’s ‘free laptop’ deal and AOL have sought to clear up any potential confusion about the giveaway by stating that the PlayStation 3 is “Yours to keep forever”.

AOL is going to great pains to stress the fact that the PS3 (and the alternative free laptop) do not need to be handed back at the end of the contract.

"We were surprised to discover during our consumer testing that many people thought they'd have to hand back the laptop or PS3 at the end of their contract," said Karl Te Aika, AOL Broadband's Online Manager.

As a result, AOL now stipulates clearly in all its advertising that the PS3 or the laptop are 'yours to keep forever'.

Like AOL’s ‘free laptop’ offer though there is a 24 month commitment to one of AOL’s Broadband Wireless Plus packages which start at £19.99 per month.

The package offers an up to 8Mb connection, 40GB download allowance, a free wireless router worth £50 and includes the AOL Talk Pay As You Go Plan.

PlayStation 3 Bundle

The Carphone Warehouse / AOL free PS3 will be a much more attractive offer to those who either already own a laptop and don’t want another one or people looking for a more cost effective way to acquire a Blu-ray player for high-definition DVD content.

With Blu-ray HD players currently selling for around £300-£500 the value of AOL’s PlayStation 3 giveaway deal is clear.

The Carphone Warehouse / AOL free PlayStation 3 bundle also includes Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction game and the movie Stealth on Blu-ray.

This offer does not replace Carphone Warehouse / AOL’s free laptop offer which continues to run.
