ON Friday 9th November, at 18.02, the much anticipated iPhone was launched. The 8GB handset is available to buy for £269, but only on the O2 network, with a minimum of an 18 month contract on dedicated tariffs.
For many customers, the decision to snap up one of the hot new iPhone handsets might have gone without saying. But how many of the newly subscribed O2 network customers have considered switching their broadband provider to O2 too?
Recently O2 quietly launched some of the most impressive broadband packages on the market. O2’s broadband packages have been designed with O2 mobile customers in mind; with a £10 a month rebate on the standard broadband fee for existing or new O2 contract customers.
Jeff Stephens, Reviews Editor at broadband comparison site ChooseISP.co.uk is enthusiastic about the new O2 broadband packages: “The O2 packages are proving themselves to be reliable, well-supported and packed with useful features and extras. Even if you discount the the massive rebate that O2 pay monthly customers receive, the O2 broadband packages themselves are superb value for money.”
Unfortunately pay as you go customers are not entitled to the £10 discount on the broadband packages. However if you have just brought a shiny new iPhone, this will not be a problem, as it will have come with an 18 month O2 contract.
The packages available are O2 Broadband Standard, with speeds of up to 8Mbps, O2 Broadband Premium, with speeds up to 16Mbps, and O2 Broadband Ultimate, with almost super-sonic speeds of 20Mbps. These packages all include unlimited downloads, complimentary MacAfee virus protection, and a free O2 Wireless Box.
Price for current O2 mobile customers start at just £7.50 a month for O2 Broadband Standard, with free set up costs. For an extra £7.50, O2 mobile customers can upgrade to the Broadband Ultimate package.
Customers who are not yet signed up to O2 mobile can expect to pay £17.50 for Broadband Standard, and £25 for Broadband Ultimate. The free set up, MacAfee virus protection and Wireless Box are also included.
This is marginally more expensive than the high speed Be broadband packages which we suggest are slightly better value for money for non O2 mobile customers.
As with switching to any broadband provider, it is worth checking that the contract you have with your current provider is nearing its end. If you switch before your contract has expired, you should expect to pay a fee.
However if your current broadband contract is due to expire, and you are also considering switching mobile phone providers (or putting an iPhone on your Christmas list), switching to O2 would be worth bearing in mind, just for the broadband deal you’ll get with it.
