Best broadband for unlimited downloads
Are you a heavy web-user? Just who offers the best broadband package for truly unlimited downloads? Julia Kukiewicz examines the frontrunners.

IT'S turned into a great month for BBC iPlayer fans as Plusnet - one of the iPlayer's biggest critics - announce higher download limits on most of their Your Way packages to cater for the changing habits of web users.

In their annual change-stuff-around-at-Plusnet tradition, they’ve upped the usage allowance for many customers, almost doubling it in one case.

With the increased use of video streaming technologies such as iPlayer - something Plusnet has publicly bemoaned - this free increase reflects Plusnet's ever-flexible approach to the needs of its customers.

So who benefits?

The teeny tiny limit for Plusnet Broadband Your Way Option 1 Customers remains the same at 1GB for £9.99 per month, as does the limit for Option 4, which stands at 40GB at £29.99 per month – though this package has been withdrawn for new customers.

These limits only apply during peak times – it’s worth remembering that during off-peak times (between 12 midnight and 8am), that downloads are truly unlimited.

Want something more?

If the increased usage limits are still not enough, going over the limit will only set you back a quid per Gigabyte (ie. 1000 MB, or roughly the equivalent of 250 songs), or you can pre-add usage allowance to your account at 75p per GB.

If you don’t know how much allowance you’re going to use, you can take advantage of Plusnet’s staggeringly powerful usage calculator to work out what you’ll need.

Go forth, Plusnet customers, and watch some guilt-free Apprentice online! Crappy download limits – you’re fired.
