Be broadband review: Value

ALL good things must come to an end but in Be broadband's case they're often replaced by even better things.

What we're saying is: yes, this Value deal used to be £7.50 a month and is now £13.79 but now it comes with unlimited downloads (with Be's very fair fair-use policy) instead of a 40GB limit.

Best broadband deal

Despite the reduction in speed, Be Value remains a top-class contender as one of the best value, high performance 8Mb packages on the broadband market, not least because it offers 1.3Mb upload speeds (great for online gamers) and comes in at under fifteen quid a month.

No gimmicks, no misleading intro prices - just a sub £15 unlimited and very reliable broadband package from one of the unsung heroes of the UK broadband world.

On the downside, you are contracted to the Be broadband service for a full year (other Be broadband packages are available with a 3-month rolling contract period). Unlike the three-month contract, however, cancellation is free with one months notice.

So how does the Be Value package stand up against similar 8Mb unlimited packages?

Free wireless Be Box and Free connection

You will receive a free wireless 'Be Box', which acts just like a souped-up wireless router.

Be is also now offering free connection on Be Value - this used to be £24, so it's a good saving.

Be Value's 1.3Mb upload speed will be music to any online gamer's ears, and useful too for anyone who uploads movies, pictures etc. to the web. It should also give you clearer internet phone calls if you use Skype or some other VoIP application.

If you want super, super fast upload speeds however, you should look at the Be Pro package instead which offers upload speeds of 2.5Mb, which is absolutely ideal for online gaming.

Good value for money

With a half price deal for an amazing 12 months, there's never been a better time to sign up for this deal. However, even when that deal is over Be Value is still excellent value for money.

The bad press that Be broadband suffered in its first year is now a distant memory (recent furore over their website re-design apart) and we're pleased to see it operating very reliably now and with partnerships like the 15% customer discount with on-site IT support company Geeks-on-Wheels.

While we prefer Be's Unlimited 24Mb broadband package, this Be Value up to 8Mb broadband package is pleasingly stable, very well supported, packed with suprisingly generous features and very good value for money, which can't be bad.
