Eclipse Internet broadband review: Home Select

WHILE Eclipse Internet used to exist in the shadows, quietly collecting award after award for their customer service, this broadband provider was thrust into the spotlight by becoming one of the very few to offer fast broadband up to 24Mb.

Nowadays, though, most ISPs have jumped on the 24Mb and higher bandwagon and Eclipse has sunk again into respectable obscurity.

But is the Eclipse Internet Home Select broadband package any good?

There is a lot to recommend it over and above the decent price and the fantastic speeds achievable.

Eclipse Internet Home Select promises speeds of up to 24Mbps. You're unlikely to reach anything like this, but we've heard reports of users getting close to 20Mbps on a good day.

That's pretty fast broadband.

Revamped Download Allowance

The real downside to this deal used to be its minuscule download allowance - 10GB - so we're happy to see that Eclipse have taken our advice (and, y'know, everyone else's) and stepped it up a bit.

A 50GB download limit should suffice for even heavy web users and is a real competitor even against unlimited deals from the likes of O2 Broadband or Sky Broadband.

Useful Traffic Controller tool

It's best feature (after its hair-straighteningly fast broadband speeds) is without doubt the Eclipse Internet Traffic Controller tool, which allows you to prioritise certain web activities (eg. video streaming) over ones that can wait a bit longer (eg. peer-to-peer downloads).

This tool is almost worth the admission price alone and while it has been copied to some degree by Be Broadband, it is without doubt the best of its kind.

Sign up to TalkMore

Once you're an Eclipse Home Select broadband customer you'll be able to sign up to their TalkMore phone service.

It's £5.99 a month for anytime landline calls, flat rate calls to O2, T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone mobiles and you can keep your BT phone number.

The big advantage over BT's anytime package, though, is the one month rolling contract. Note that this deal is included free with Eclipse Home Pro.

So should I get the Eclipse Internet Home Select broadband package?

This is a brilliantly priced, very fast broadband package with some superb features and the benefit of a 1-month contract if you want it.

With that all-new 50GB download limit we're got no qualms about heartily recommending Eclipse home select.
