When you are paying around four times as much for your broadband as you could be (and note that our price includes VAT, not listed on the Fasthosts site) you'd have to be a very serious fan of Fasthosts broadband to sign up here.

Technically minded

However, that's not to say that it's necessarily money wasted; the Fasthosts broadband packages are still worth a gander and may appeal to the more technically minded broadband customer.

For starters, there is certain benefit in taking your broadband from a dedicated hosting company like Fasthosts.

You know, for example, that the people you'll be dealing with are technically competent and - arguably - offer a better customer service.

After all, the world of web-hosting requires by default a certain level of customer service competence that most broadband companies can only dream of.

Free technical support

What's more, the Fasthosts broadband technical support is both free and available 24 hours a day.

When you compare that to, say, Orange's 50p per minute technical support and their 8am to 11pm phonelines, you start to see the benefit of paying a bit more for a broadband provider like Fasthosts.

On the other hand, that argument falls a little flat with O2 Broadband, Be Broadband, BT Broadband and Virgin Media all now offering free technical support too.

No ties

Where Fasthosts broadband does shine is in its no-ties contracts.

New users won't have to sign their life away for 12 or 18 months as Fasthosts' minimum term is just one month.

This does mean paying Fasthosts a £50 activation fee though, but this is waived if you are migrating from a different broadband provider (although this in turn does require you to commit to Fasthosts broadband for at least 3 months).

Free hosting and domain

You'll also get a rather wicked Fasthosts web hosting plan thrown in free with your Fasthosts broadband, which includes a large chunk of webspace and a free .com, .co.uk or .eu domain name.

We're particularly impressed with Fasthosts Broadband's professional email setup too, offering amongst other things Direct Push mobile for Exchange mailboxes as well as SMS 'new email' alerts which sends you a text message everytime a new email arrives in your inbox (25p per text).

So perhaps not entirely suitable for everyone, the Fasthosts Broadband 2048 package is still worthy of consideration for, perhaps, the more professional or discerning broadband user.
