Orange mobile broadband review: PAYG

WANT to get online when you're out and about but don't want to use mobile broadband long term? If so, Orange's short contract mobile broadband could be for you.

1 Month Contract

Unlike ordinary pay as you go mobile broadband, where you just pay for the amount you use, Orange's mobile broadband deal comes with a thirty day time limit as well as a limit on the amount you can use.

If you're likely to use your 3GB usage allowance with 30 days in any case this shouldn't worry you but if you're a very light user it might be irritating.

Even more annoyingly, unlike similar 'timed' mobile broadband packages (which just stop working when you've used up your usage allowance) you'll pay 5p per extra MB that you use.

Although excess data is capped at £40 a month for UK usage, this could still prove to be very pricey mobile broadband. If you think you could go over 3GB it's well worth paying for the extra 10GB allowance.

Orange have recently re-jigged their mobile broadband to offer users more choice so you can add-on extra monthly usage when you sign up. The more usage you add, the cheaper it'll be per GB - so 1GB is £5 and 10GB is £20 (or £2 per GB).

Reduced Dongle Price

Orange's standard mobile broadband dongle is now £29.99 - not unreasonable but still a little more pricey than other providers.

It's currently only available in black (you can pick up snazzy pink and blue devices with T-Mobile pay as you go mobile broadband, O2 pay as you go mobile broadband and also Vodafone pay as you go mobile broadband - although Vodafone's is a rather more peachy and slightly less snazzy pink), and as with pretty much all the latest USB dongles it'll work with both PCs and Macs and is just 4cm.

There is a £3.99 delivery charge.

Good Value for Money?

At just £10 for 1GB, £15 for 3GB and £29 for 10GB Orange mobile broadband is excellent value for money and with added flexibility you can get exactly the usage you want.
