Are an O2 mobile phone customer (pay monthly OR payg)? Then you can get this package for £5 less per month. O2 Premium is the middle child of O2's three broadband deals but with up to 20Mb/s speeds, a great reputation and excellent prices it's no slouch. It's even better if you're an O2 mobile customer: you'll get £5 a month off what is already a very reasonably-priced broadband deal. As an incentive to stay with O2 mobile this is ingenious - you're unlikely to get broadband this good for 10 quid anywhere else. It's worth noting that even if you don't want to get tied into a long mobile phone contract you can get the discount with an O2 pay as you go phone if you top up by £10 every three months. What do you get? What distinguishes O2 broadband Premium from its little brother O2 broadband Standard are those up to 20Mb/s speeds. Actually, since O2 shares Be broadband's network, those are up to 24Mb/s speeds but O2 doesn't like to brag. In fact, under-promising and then over-delivered turns out to be a bit of a theme of O2 broadband deals. If you sign up for this O2 Broadband Premium 20Mb package, or even the O2 Broadband Pro 20Mb package, and after a month it looks like you can't reach near the best speeds, O2 will automatically recommend you downgrade to the O2 Broadband Standard 8Mb package instead, so you'll only have to pay for the speed you're actually getting. Now, which other broadband providers will actively down-sell? We like it. Other than the speed, you'll get the same extras as other O2 broadband deals: a free wireless router, free McAfee security suite, highly-rated UK-based customer service and an unlimited download allowance. Less important but worth mentioning are the 200 free web texts (those alone have a street value equivalent to the price of this package for O2 customers) and a free service which sends all your emails to your phone like text messages, just in case you want to pretend you've got a Blackberry. O2 Home Phone O2 are now offering home phone deals bundled with their broadband. These are very well-priced: either £9.50 for Evening & Weekend UK landline calls or £12.50 for Anytime calls to UK landlines and 20 international destinations. Given that BT line rental sets you back £11.25 and an anytime calls deal from the same place is an extra £4.99 - that's quite a significant saving. 30-day Money back Guarantee Bear in mind that if you sign-up for O2 Broadband Premium and you're not satisfied you've got 30 days to change your mind. That's 30 days from when your O2 broadband service is activated so it's a really good opportunity to test them out without fear of getting stuck for a year - other broadband providers, take note! The only catch is that you'll have to return your router so you'll have some postage to pay (but nothing compared with getting out of a 12-month contract). O2 charge £50 for unreturned equipment so make sure you send it recorded too. On the other hand, we're pretty sure you won't want to get rid of O2 broadband in any case. Stop Searching We don't say this very often because telling people to compare broadband deals is kind of our thing but if you're an O2 mobile customer and you are lucky enough to be part of the the 50% or so of the UK that can receive O2 broadband's ADSL2+ high speed packages, you can stop searching. This is pretty great. That goes even if you were thinking of going for this package's opposite number at Be broadband Be Unlimited broadband. O2 broadband uses the high-speed Be broadband network, which O2 quietly bought out in 2006, but Be Unlimited is £2.88 more per month. We just can't help ourselves. Still want more? If you're a heavy broadband user or battling a serious MMOG addition you might want to take a peak at O2's next step up O2 Pro Broadband. O2 Pro ramps up upload speeds to 2.5Mb (they're 1.3Mb on O2 Premium) and bundles in a free static IP - so you can even host your own gaming server at lightning fast speeds. You get an upgraded wireless "n" router - with improved coverage and data transfer speeds and a dedicated customer services number. Pro costs an extra £7.50 a month. Is it worth upgrading from Premium to Pro? The quick answer is it really depends on your needs - if you're a serious gamer or make use of uploading speeds and reducing ping time is a priority, then you should probably consider Pro. It's still very competitively priced broadband and really delivers that extra boost. For most people though - or if you're thinking of upgrading to Premium from O2 Standard - O2 Premium is one of the best broadband connections in the UK and offers considerably more than a simple safe-bet.
