Sky broadband review: Broadband and TVSPECIAL OFFER: £50 M&S voucher when you join any package online. . SKY'S fantastic 'See, Speak & Surf' broadband bundle brand has a nice ring to it but for the less talkative amongst you here are Sky's simple 'See & Surf' deals. Top notch You probably don't need us to tell you that Sky's TV service is top-notch (see below for more on that) but you might not know that they also do a very decent line in reasonably-priced broadband. Bear in mind that although a phone service isn't listed here you will still need a landline to receive this service so remember to add that in to the monthly price, that's £11.54 if you're with BT. Basic Browsing to Breaking your Browser There are three Sky broadband packages available with three very different speeds and usage allowances. Base is the most basic of the three - with 2Mb speeds and a tiny 2Mb download limit it'll be absolutely fine for basic browsing and emailing but not up to much else: streaming video on a regular basis is likely to be slow and eat into your allowance. Up next is the speedy Sky Everyday (previously Sky Mid) package which gives speeds of up to 10Mb plus a semi-chunky monthly usage allowance of 10GB. That'll be more than enough for medium users (e.g. many hours of browsing and a minor YouTube addiction). There are no specific penalties for going over your limit but you may have your service throttled (slowed) and if you're a repeat offender Sky will ask you to move up to the next package. So if you think that might happen to you we'd recommend the biggest and best Sky broadband deal: Unlimited. Not only does Unlimited have speeds of up to 20Mb it's also the UK's only completely unlimited service - that means no caps on downloads and no traffic shaping: you can use the internet to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Sky TV The 'See' part of this two-part package is your Sky TV choice, and here you get to choose at least 1 'pack' - as Sky likes to call them. There are six packs available: variety; news & events; music; knowledge; kids and style & culture. Specialist channels not included in the packs, such as Sky sports, will mean an extra monthly cost - usually around 50p more a day - but Sky will usually knock some money off if you're choosing a number of extras. There are far more combinations then we could list so the prices you see below are just for the broadband with one viewing pack. Take a look at Sky's product builder (just click the 'sign up' link) to see options. Extras We may have mentioned it before (we tend to) but Sky are currently giving away a £50 M&S voucher when you sign up to this deal online. That's your pants and ready meal shopping sorted then... There is also a free wireless router included as well as 12 months of McAfee security for Mac or PC and no set-up fees. However, you will have to make a one-off payment of £49 when you sign up to get your hands on your Sky+ HD box. The only way to get around that is to sign up for Sky broadband and TV in HD, although seeing in HD will set you back an extra monthly cost. All in all, though, this is a high-quality broadband and TV from a company that knows what it's doing.
