Review of Sky See & Surf Base 1

WHILE Sky's fantastic 'See, Speak & Surf' broadband bundle brand has such a nice ring to it, sometimes you just don't need to speak, man!

Top notch

This Sky See & Surf Base 1 broadband bundle offers Sky broadband and Sky's top-notch digital TV, but ditches the home phone option, saving you a fair amount in the process.

The Sky broadband part of this Sky bundle is the very basic Sky Base package which gives speeds of up to 2Mb with a monthly usage allowance of 2Gb.

Basic browsing

This is probably not suitable for heavy web users, but is absolutely fine for basic browsing and emailing and will even allow you to download as many as 500 music tracks.

The 'See' part of this two-part package is your Sky TV choice, and here you get to choose 2 'mixes' - as Sky likes to call them. This means you choose 2 of the available 6 mix of packages which are made up of:
- Variety
- News & Events
- Music
- Knowledge
- Kids
- Style & Culture

Add mixes to the bundle

Of course, you can always add more Sky TV mixes to your bundle, at just £1 per month each. You can also drop one of the mixes, and save and knock the price down by a quid.

If you love movies, or are a footie fan, you can also add Sky Sports and/or Sky Movies to your TV package. While there is an extra cost for this, the price increase will start at around 50p a day extra.

You can also buy a Sky+ box (currently less than £100 and no subscription fee) in place of the free Sky Box that comes as standard. This allows you to record and store shows to watch back when it suits you.

High definition

And if you are feeling really posh, you can buy a Sky HD Box which does everything the Sky+ Box does but also delivers your TV in eye-poppingly clear high-definition.

Make sure you have a HD-ready TV though and keep in mind there is a monthly fee for this service, but having experienced it ourselves, we know that once you've seen it, the cost is irrelevant.

As a TV and broadband-only bundle package this is indeed excellent value for money from Sky, but do keep in mind the need for line rental in order to receive it.
