Virgin Media Broadband, TV, Phone & Mobile BundleIndependent review with up to date prices, details and special offers for this package...
Virgin Media broadband review: Broadband, TV, Phone & MobileDO you like to keep it simple? Are you sick of afternoons spent on the phone trying to juggle the different providers for your broadband, TV, home phone and mobile contracts? If you answered yes to either of these questions (and, frankly, who wouldn't?) then you should seriously consider this mega-bundle from Virgin Media. Keeping it Simple The service is £28 a month, plus your £11 line rental with Virgin, which makes each service £9.50 a month each. For that, you'll get:
Does it Save Money? Short answer: yes. Here's how: Virgin's Broadband L + phone M + TV M package is £19.50 a month. Add in the £11 line rental and the free mobile with inclusive minutes separately and that's £41.50. So getting this bundled service will save you a grand total of £13.50 a month. That's a £162 saving over your whole 12 month contract. Not too shabby. The only fly in the ointment is the SIM-only deal. If you get a Virgin Mobile SIM separately you can now get unlimited texts on all packages so it's worth thinking hard about your mobile usage before you sign up. More on the services At £11 a month Virgin's line rental is 54p cheaper than BT's and with the M phone package you won't pay a penny more. M home phone gives you inclusive weekend calls to UK landlines. When you do pay for calls to local and national UK landlines they'll be 6.36p a minute. Calls to mobiles are 15.68p in the day and 10.79p in the evening (expect when calling 3, which is slightly more pricey). You also get free voicemail, 141 (to conceal your number) and 1471 (last number callback) services. With M TV you'll get free catch up TV with iplayer, 4 OD and ITV player and you can pay for TV on-demand. You can also buy a V+ HD box, for a one-off cost of £75 plus £5 a month, which can store up to 80 hours of TV. Like the Sky+ box you can also pause and rewind live TV and the seriously indecisive (or those who live with a large and argumentative family) can even record two channels and watch a third. L broadband is a speedy 10Mb service with unlimited downloads. You'll get a free wireless router and free installation when you order online (usually £30). All in all, this is a great way to keep your life simple and your balance out of the red.

As regards their BB I always get over 18mb whatever time of day and it very rare I ever lose my connection, twice in one year each time for less than half hour. The only real drawback with VM is the Indian CS, some people terribly hard to understand, and they all read answers off a clipboard, best wait to business hours. Mind you it is improving, overall I'd give them 8/10." George from Dundee writes... 27/11/2008 "I have recently moved house and needed to phone Virgin Media several times but never once had to speak to an Indian call center. Although i have with BT. Service with VM is decent enough and there cables broadband is excellent. Have had to move to ADSL with them but have not tried it yet so can't comment on quality." Martin from London writes... 12/10/2007 "Signed up for Virgin Media XL Broadband 20Mb. I don't even get 1Mb most times, usually lower. The customer service is extremely poor and they are all based in India. There is no email based support, only 25p/min tech number." Gareth Snow from Worthing writes... 03/10/2007 "We recently had broadband, telephone and also TV installed from Virgin Media and they were excellent. Really good value for money. Also we have Virgin Media's V+ service which is superb!" S.J. from Manchester writes... 08/09/2007 "When Virgin Media was still Telewest it was great. Now the XL package is £37/month, with fair use policy introduced, the speeds are not consistent and the upload speed is ridiculous for todays isp's. The once free tech help is now 25p/min with 10p connection charge (to India!!). If I had a BT line I would try another broadband provider." Jason Hines from Epsom writes... 12/08/2007 "So far so very good. I signed up to the VirginMedia 3 for £30 bundle in April and so far have been amazed. I had heard bad stories but took the risk as they offer a moneyback guarantee. Thankfully I never had to use it. I still find it amazing that I get all this for £30. Highly recommended." Hazel Wykes from Birmingham writes... 11/08/2007 "We thought we'd give Virgin Media a try just to see how it compared but were so dissatified with it, that we changed back to BT. We are now on BT Total Broadband Option 3. Its top class, everything about it is excellent. It beats Virgin Media all round." |
